Scuderia Ferrari was founded in Modena on 16 November 1929, when Enzo Ferrari created a racing operation originally connected to Alfa Romeo.
The team did not begin as the Formula 1 institution later known worldwide in red. It started as a structure to prepare, enter and manage racing cars, giving private drivers access to organised competition and giving Alfa Romeo a powerful support network. The shape was practical before it became mythological, which is often how the best myths get away with it.
Before the Ferrari cars
In its early years, Scuderia Ferrari ran Alfa Romeo machinery and built a reputation for discipline, preparation and competitive seriousness. Enzo Ferrari was not yet the constructor whose name would become inseparable from Formula 1, but he was already developing the methods and relationships that would define his later company.
