Jamie Chadwick was confirmed to continue in the Williams Driver Academy on 18 January 2023. The decision kept one of the team’s most prominent development drivers closely linked to its Formula 1 programme.
Williams confirmed on 18 January 2023 that Jamie Chadwick would remain in its Driver Academy for the 2023 season. The announcement extended a relationship that had already become one of the most visible long-term development partnerships for a female driver in the modern Formula 1 environment.
By that point, Chadwick had been part of the Williams structure since 2019 and had built a strong reputation through results and consistency. She arrived into 2023 as a three-time W Series champion, and the academy role gave her continued access to simulator work and close contact with the team at Grove. That mattered because development programmes are not only about public backing, but also about technical preparation, feedback processes and understanding how a Formula 1 team operates behind the scenes.
The timing was important. Chadwick was preparing for a move to Indy NXT with Andretti Autosport, so the Williams decision ensured that her next step outside Europe did not weaken her link to Formula 1. Instead, the academy extension allowed her to build experience in another competitive single-seater category while remaining inside an F1 development structure.
For Williams, the confirmation also carried broader value. Chadwick had become an important figure for the team’s driver pathway and a notable role model in junior motorsport. Keeping her in the academy gave continuity to that project through the 2023 season.
