BRM’s success was not built around a single flash of speed. In the points system of the time, consistency, reliability and the ability to score across the season were decisive. Hill’s victory in South Africa gave BRM the strongest possible finish, while the team’s broader body of results across 1962 proved enough to beat Lotus-Climax in the International Cup for Formula One Manufacturers.

The title was settled in the same race that also delivered Hill his first world drivers’ championship, turning East London into one of the defining days in BRM’s history. Driver and team reached the top together.

BRM would remain one of the great historic names of British Formula 1, but this was the day the team first converted promise into a world title. Securing the constructors’ crown confirmed that BRM had become more than a fast occasional contender. It had become the benchmark of the 1962 season.
