On 1 June 2025, Oscar Piastri won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole and led home a McLaren one-two with Lando Norris. The clean version of the race was orange: calm at the front, efficient on strategy, and fast enough to make Barcelona look less like a Red Bull comfort zone.
The messy version arrived late. A Safety Car reset the race after Andrea Kimi Antonelli stopped, Max Verstappen was left on hard tyres, and the restart turned sharp. Charles Leclerc and George Russell both became part of Verstappen’s afternoon, with the Red Bull driver eventually receiving a 10-second penalty for his collision with Russell.
That penalty dropped Verstappen to 10th. Charles Leclerc completed the podium, Russell was fourth, and Nico Hulkenberg gave Sauber an eye-catching fifth from 15th on the grid.
For Piastri, it was a controlled fifth win of the season. For the rest, it was a reminder that Barcelona can still find drama if the tyre sets, Safety Car timing and driver temper all arrive in the wrong order.
