Max Verstappen claimed his first Formula 1 victory at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, becoming the youngest race winner in the sport’s history.

Verstappen arrived at the Spanish Grand Prix as a new Red Bull Racing driver after a mid-season promotion from Toro Rosso. The race on 15 May 2016 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya quickly turned dramatic when both Mercedes cars collided on the opening lap, handing Red Bull an unexpected opportunity.

From that moment, Verstappen remained composed. He managed tyre life on a two-stop strategy and absorbed heavy pressure from Kimi Räikkönen in the closing stages. His defensive driving demonstrated maturity beyond his age and highlighted his ability to control a race under stress.

When he crossed the finish line, Verstappen made history at just 18 years old. The victory marked a turning point for Red Bull and signalled the arrival of a future championship contender.
