Carlo Facetti was born in Cormano, near Milan, on 26 June 1935. His career would be defined mainly by touring cars and sports cars, not Formula 1, but he did make one attempt to enter a World Championship Grand Prix at the height of the 1970s private-entry era.
Facetti’s single Formula 1 appearance came at the 1974 Italian Grand Prix, where he entered with Scuderia Finotto in a Brabham BT42. Monza was the natural place for such an attempt: home territory, Italian attention, and a grid that still had enough texture for private teams and one-off arrangements to appear around the edges of the established constructors.
A Brabham that did not make the race
The attempt did not turn into a Grand Prix start. Facetti failed to qualify, leaving his Formula 1 record as one entry and zero starts. That can look like the thinnest possible connection, but it also says something about the way the championship worked in that period. Cars changed hands, small teams arrived with borrowed or customer equipment, and drivers with strong records elsewhere could still have a realistic reason to try the Formula 1 paddock, even if the stopwatch ended the idea quickly.
Facetti’s wider career was much more substantial. He became the 1979 European Touring Car Champion and was a respected presence in tin-top and endurance racing. That career sits awkwardly beside the Formula 1 line, because the F1 line is tiny and the rest of the racing CV is not. It is the opposite of the driver whose Grand Prix record flatters everything around it.
For Facetti, Monza did not open a Formula 1 chapter. It left a footnote: one Brabham, one qualifying attempt, no start. His reputation had to live somewhere else, and it did.
