Belgian GP extended to 2031

8 January 2025

Formula 1 has extended the Belgian Grand Prix through 2031 in a rotating format. Spa-Francorchamps is guaranteed races in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031.

Formula 1 confirmed on 8 January 2025 that the Belgian Grand Prix will remain tied to the championship until 2031, but no longer as an annual fixture. Under the new agreement, Spa-Francorchamps is secured on the calendar for 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031, while the event drops out in 2028 and 2030.

The deal reflects a broader shift in how Formula 1 manages its packed schedule. With strong interest from existing venues and new markets, the championship has moved toward rotating some established European races rather than guaranteeing every circuit a permanent yearly slot. Spa keeps its place, but within a more flexible model.

Spa-Francorchamps remains one of the sport’s most respected tracks, valued by drivers for its speed, elevation changes and technical demands. Keeping the race in the championship preserves a circuit with clear sporting weight, even if it now appears less often.

The agreement also follows recent investment at the venue, including spectator and infrastructure upgrades designed to strengthen its long-term position. Formula 1’s decision gives Spa security beyond 2025 while underlining the commercial and political pressure shaping the modern calendar.

The result is a compromise: Spa stays, but not every year.
